Our Practice

Personalized Care By Qualified Professionals

Our philosophy is one of patient-centered, highly-individualized care provided by licensed professionals: paramedical estheticians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and doctors. Ferrer & Monaghan Vein and Aesthetic Center uses sound principles of art, medicine, and science. We understand the interplay of physical appearance, wellbeing, and self-esteem.

From the Egyptians, credited with inventing cosmetics, to the elaborate garments and white powdered wigs of the Renaissance, beauty has been a central theme in all civilizations. Ancient philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle held beauty among the highest goods, and that is where it remains for the professionals at Ferrer & Monaghan Vein and Aesthetic Center. Dr. Viola Monaghan describes beauty as “a reflection of inner and outer health, a balance of the whole person. “The ancient concept of beauty is part of what Dr. Monaghan intended to express when choosing the medical spa’s name and, ultimately, its mission. “I wanted to convey the idea of beauty as more then one’s outer appearance. In classical philosophy, beauty was held in high esteem along with goodness, balance, truth, and love.”

Dr. Monaghan & Dr. Ferrer

Dr. Viola Monaghan earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA followed by a family practice residency at Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport, PA. After residency she pursued her interest in obstetrics and surgery by completing an obstetrical fellowship at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, PA. She moved to upstate New York as a National Health Service Corp scholar.

Her interest in the treatment of venous disease began during her residency and continued through her fellowship training. During her years in obstetrics and family practice she encountered many patients with venous disease and her interest in treating these disorders prompted her to pursue further education in this specialty. Dr. Monaghan began her formal training in phlebology in 1998.

She later joined the American College of Phlebology and established a mentoring relationship with Dr. Henry Train at The Vein Center of Central PA. In addition, she trained with Drs J.C. Agostini and G.E. Ferrer at Northeast Surgical Group. Experience included ultrasonography and Doppler imaging, exposure to extensive venous pathology and a complete program in vein care including sclerotherapy, laser therapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, PIN stripping and endovenous laser procedures.

Dr. Monaghan joined the Vein and Laser Centers of Central New York during the summer of 2003. Her interest in aesthetic medicine was a result of joining the practice and she began formal training in aesthetics at that time.
